The trailer starts of as a normal spring day in an old
American town where everything seems normal and you get the sense of community
straight from the offset as they show scenes of a baseball game where everyone
seems to be having fun and enjoying themselves, but as a horror trailer does it
drastically takes a turn for the worse when you see an old man completely aloof
to anything as he walks on the pitch with a shotgun, this is when the trailer
starts to drag you in because it’s not something you see every day. Once the
police man has shot him the music drastically changes and we soon establish who
the main characters are within the trailer. Each shot leaves you with a feeling
of suspense as they cut to the next one linking them to other shots throughout
the trailer. You slowly see the plot unravelling and becoming clearer as they
show signs of an infection/zombie type film with the people acting very odd to
then showing the man in the cell bleeding from many orifices on his face and he
tries to grab the police man. This shows they have been changed into something
very un-human. Throughout each shot it changes from showing them hiding to them
being hunted by these creatures, but as they go on you can see they are fighting
back and slowly figuring out what’s going on. The music in the trailer is all
very high in the mix and it’s all sounds that are jumpy and leave you in
suspense of what is happening. To the point where they go for a completely
different song ‘mad world’ by Gary Jules which sums up exactly what their small
peaceful town has turned into by this plague infected disease. And the shot
they use with the lyrics ‘mad world’ will lure the viewer in more because they
will be interested into how this small town has turned into this blazing fiery
death trap. The speed of the cuts also show it’s a very fast paced film with a
lot of action within it which will attract the viewer as they will want to see
more of this fast paced gore. The taglines used are very short and straight to
the point but if you put it together it strings up a very powerful sentence
which reads ‘your NEIGHBOURS your FRIENDS your FAMILY are CHANGING THIS is ONLY
the CRAZIES’ this is connoting to the audience that it’s happening to everyone
they know and love and there is no way of escaping it. The final shot is a
switching of power it’s the sane people strapped down and being killed by one
of the insane people. This leaves the viewer in a very big mist of suspense.

The trailer starts off with the two stereotypical girls about
to go on a night out, all dressed up and not knowing what to expect. In the
first scenes in the hotel room you think nothing of it but you get a sense
something will happen as they don’t know where they’re really going hence the
map reading. The next scene in the car is when you start to sense something bad
is going to happen. You can get this feeling due to the weather being bad the
car tire popping and not knowing where they are. These are just minor things
compared to what they get themselves into by knocking on the stranger’s door.
The films story line is literally about 1 crazy man in his remote house in
Germany and wanted to make a real life human centipede and he does so by
kidnapping and drugging random innocent people. None of the actors are well
known they have all been in random films that haven’t really been a hit. But
when we establish the main man (the psycho surgeon) Dieter Laser, straight away
we see his face looking through the window and in my opinion him in that role
was a brilliant choice due to the fact he has a very scary looking face. The
two female actresses also haven’t been in many films but they still suit the
good looking stereotypical girls in a horror film. The way the trailer lures in
the audience is by using short jumpy shots mixed in with long shots of the main
guy talking about what he’s going to do and how he’s going to do it. The pace
of the trailer is very fast and short cut which gives the impression of a very
exciting film full of gripping footage. The sounds is just dramatic
instrumentals which go very well with the fast cuts. Whereas the dialogue is
all very high in the mix and is just mainly shouting and the emotions portrayed
are scared and anger. Towards the last 40 seconds of the trailer everything all
starts to speed up and become more intense to keep the viewer on edge and they
leave the trailer on a huge cliff hanger. The tag lines are all about the main
guy and they just use brief but bold descriptions of him which will stick in
the viewer’s mind.

Release Date: August 14th 2011
Genre: Horror / horror parody
Cast: Anton Yelchin, Colin Farrell, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, David Tennant, Imogen Poots, Toni Collette Director: Craig Gillespie
Writers: Marti Noxon
Studio: DreamWorks
The start of the trailer starts off quite fast but doesn’t come across scary just a normal trailer but it’s all very dull and dreary which adds to the horror effect. Straight away we get an understanding of whom the main characters are and they try give a sense of what’s going to happen as they say that kids have been going missing from the school, this is going to keep the viewer interested to find out what the film is actually about and what’s yet to come. The camera shots are all mainly medium close ups or close ups. But we get no sense of power from the angles. This film is also a horror parody; some people would assume that due to the actor Christopher Mintz-Plasse who is a comedy actor and is known for his role n Superbad. And he is the one in the trailer to suggest the neighbour is a vampire and knowing the type of actor he is it is meant to sound ridiculous. The sense of story we get from the trailer is the standard vampire film that ends up being found out and good defeating evil to become the hero who saves the day and gets the girl. We establish who the main characters are and who becomes the hero and who the vampire is who later on gets defeated and the damsel in distress who later on gets saved. For a comedy horror the trailer only uses that one line and throughout the rest its very jumpy and keeps the audience on their toes because they don’t show you what happens next they just play out like it’s one constant battle and the boy is always losing this is where the trailer is using montage shots, throughout the trailer the pace changes from fast to slow and the music changes with it to give it a lot more suspense and to keep the audience intrigued this also implies that it’s an action packed fast paced film. The music changes to suit the scene one minute its very fast and a high beat the next its very slow and calm beat almost like a connotation for the main characters heartbeat. The tag lines used are just to advertise the companies who produce the film and release it to the film and when it’s going to be released
